Academic Computing Starts to Rise

In 1964 the Chilton Atlas arrived and started to work albeit a limited number of hours per week. The academic sector also benefited greatly by the bringing into a much fuller service the London and Manchester Atlas systems although not totally available to the academic sector.

The first round of machines from the recommendations of the Flowers Report began to arrive. In particular were the large number of Elliott 803 computers. Most were not working a full week but they did add significantly to the general academic computing power.
